Grana Padano is similar to Parmigiano Reggiano, but a
great cheese in its own right. An absolute 'must try' ,if you haven't discovered it yet. A hard cheese with a crumbly grainy (grana)
texture, it is more subtle tasting than Parmigiano with sweet, fruity
and caramel flavours.
Like Parmigiano, Grana Padano must be made to strict PDO
rules and can only be made in the Po Valley. Originally created by Cistercian monks, it's probably the
most popular cheese in Italy today.
What with? Grana Padano is just as wonderfully
versatile as Parmigiano Reggiano, especially if you want to add a more delicate
flavour to your cooking. Brilliant grated over a risotto or shaved onto fresh crusty bread with some olives on stand by - heaven!
